Fake Sneeze

This morning, one of the girls sneezed and out of nowhere we hear Gabe say, "Ahh  shhhh."
This is his version of a fake sneeze and he loved the reaction he got and has continued his rendition all day.

His other new tricks include giving kisses (very wet, gooey ones - usually unannounced or with very little warning) and saying "Da Da" as he reaches for Ron.
For the record, he did that like eons ago for me.  Ok, I wish.

Oh gross.  Lauren just walked in with goop all over her hands.  I said, "Did you put too much Vaseline on your lips babe?" (her lips are chapped)
She goes, "No Mom, this is snot!"

Sick. (pun intended)  Gotta go.

Homemade Birthday Banner

I downloaded this picture today and was LOL.  Madeline, God bless her, made her own birthday banner for her own birthday.  She came to me when she was finished and said, "I made a banner for my party.  Can you help me hang it?"
(its hard to see but she actually wrote "Happy Birthday Maddie")

Wow, nothing like making Mom look like she dropped the ball.  ;)

Happy Easter

After giving the kids their Easter baskets, Madeline said they had a surprise for us.  She and Abigail ran and retrieved baskets for Ron and I (they found some old ones in storage).
This note was tapped to my basket.
All kinds of fun goodies inside.  I had a beautiful scarf (from my banking days) and some beautiful jewelry that I didn't even remember I owned!  Ron received a great tie, a CD and his favorite book that he reads the girls.

The best part of the day was remembering why we celebrate Easter.....our Savior, Jesus Christ.

AHHHHHHH.....Plenty of Room.

We have been wanting to "upgrade" to a king bed for about a year now.  I should preface this by saying that I used to not be a fan of king beds....."they were too large".....someone slap me.

My Mom told me about a wholesale warehouse in town and don't think I didn't head over, cash in hand (totally serious here) and ready to negotiate.
Let's just say, I'm my Father's daughter.  Yes, I did walk away with a king bed, mattress and box spring for less than 1/3 of what we almost paid last year at Macy's.

They delivered "the goods" yesterday and Ron and I might have gone to bed shortly after the kiddos....might.

The Scherer tradition is for everyone to crawl into our bed at 7 am - even if its only for 5 min - before we start the day.  Now, the past year its gotten a bit crowded and not quite (not even close - far from it - its actually become a lesson in patience....and so early in the morning) as relaxing as we intended for our little 5 minute siesta.

This morning, however, was incredible.  Amazing.  Surreal.  As I'm lying there enjoying the moment I hear someone say, "There's even room for one more!"

I guess the Cal-king is always an option as well.

Happy 1st Birthday Gabriel!

(still waiting on birthday pictures but here is one the morning of his birthday....he is showing off his new trick.  I can wave!)

Pictures to follow....I lent my camera to a friend who was headed to NYC for the weekend.
Grandma should be emailing pictures soon.

At any rate, Gabe had a great birthday.  What a sweetheart!  He was hilarious with his cake.  The whole, "show up and watch him dive into his cake" was a bit of an overstatement.  He ended up requesting a spoon which he used to carefully scrape off a bit of icing.  Anyway, I think he liked his first taste of sugar! :)

Uh-oh!

Today, Gabriel learned to announce "uh oh" as he tosses food from his highchair.
You would think the 4th time around that I would not be ROTFL.....but I was. :)
Of course it will not be nearly as funny the 2nd, 3rd and 89th time, but today.....funny.
(for those of you who actually think there would be an 89th time.....nope.  Once you throw the food, you're done. :)

Happy 7th Birthday Madeline!

Girl, you rock my world.  You are an amazing blessing in my life.  Each day with you is an incredibly wonderful day.  Truly.  I could not be more thankful to God that He gave you to us.
Your heart is so full of generosity and love.  So much so, that I could never claim it as "good parenting."
I will never, ever forget the moment - 7 years ago - when you came into this world.  Ten after noon on a beautiful, sunny Friday.  One glance and I was completely head over heals.  You changed my life forever.  I am honored to be your mommy.  I consider it the highest calling.
I love you....all the way to heaven ;)

Blizzard of '08

They are reporting 20.4 inches of snow in Columbus (that .4 really threw me over the edge), an apparent record for one snowfall in Columbus.  Previous record was 15.3 inches back in 1910...almost a century ago.
(btw, that's our cul-de-sac in the background)

Winter Storm Dance

The girls are excited about the winter storm brewing!

Kickin' it Old School

Let me explain.

I heard Gabriel in his crib at 6 am this morning.  He went to bed at 7 last night so I knew he was ready to get up.  I reluctantly headed for the nursery as we are in a full-on blizzard here (10 inches already) and this morning, of all mornings, would be the perfect day to sleep in.

As I am headed back out of the nursery, Gabe in tow, Madeline (also known as my angel and you'll see why in a second) appears out of nowhere and says, "Mom, I can take him so you can go and sleep some more."

Could it be true?  Am I still dreaming?  Do I really have a child that is old enough for this?
(This inner dialogue came later in the morning.... much later....and after I handed Gabbers off like the Olympic torch and dove back under the covers).

Ahhhhhh, Ron and I got to sleep in for a bit.....reminding us of BK  (before kids).

Throwback to '06

1. Throwback - a sudden reminder of the past.  This can be brought about hearing an old song from high school, seeing an ex, puffing on a j in your old puffin spot, etc.  Similar to a flashback.
(taken from urban dictionary)

So, I was flipping through Madeline's journal (pre-blog days) and looking at when she turned 4, 5 and 6...she will be 7 on Sunday.
I started reading a couple entries from when she turned 5 and found myself howling with laughter at a story I had forgotten.

Luke and Bethany were over hanging out one night and Luke was holding Madeline on his lap (she was facing him).  This was during a phase of hers where she would make up songs all day...."Twinkle, Twinkle, little bathtub.  I am going to take a bath"  ....whatever she was doing at the moment, she would sing it.

Anyway, she asked Uncle Luke if he wanted her to sing him one of her songs.  Being the great uncle that he is, he said, "Yes!"
She looks right up at him and starts belting it out,
The sky is so BLUE
Your teeth are so YELLOW

Honestly, no one heard the rest of the song.
(possibly because the laughter was deafening?)

Crest Whitestripes?  Anyone?
